Dear Farooq,

The literature should depend on your perspective. There are some
interesting studies in the field of Social Networks. You can look, for
example, at this article:

Licoppe C., Smoreda Z. (2005) 'Are social networks technologically
embedded?: How networks are changing today with changes in communication
technology', Social Networks, Vol. 27, No. 4, pp. 317-335.

and see if it answers your question.

Best wishes,
Elad Segev
