Faculty Positions (Assistant/Associate Professors)

SLIS, Indiana University Bloomington

Indiana University's Information Science School  at Bloomington (SLIS) 
invites applications for two Assistant/Associate Professor positions. All 
areas of specialization, from digital libraries to organizational 
informatics, that are pertinent to the school's academic programs will be 
considered. The successful candidates will complement the school's 
developing research agenda in the social and cognitive analyses of 
interaction between people, organizations, technologies and information, 
particularly in relation to the development of the Internet and World Wide 
Web. We seek truly outstanding individuals with strong research and 
teaching records.

In both its research and teaching, SLIS is committed to exploring the 
cognitive, contextual and social processes that characterize information 
behavior at individual, organizational and societal levels. The school 
maintains good working relations with colleagues in other academic units 
such as Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Journalism, Education, and Law 
through joint and adjunct faculty appointments as well as through 
interaction with Fellows in the Center for Social Informatics. The school 
is also an active player in IU's Digital Library Program 
(http://www.dlib.indiana.edu) and the university's new, multidisciplinary 
School of Informatics (http://informatics.indiana.edu/). Information about

SLIS has an interdisciplinary faculty whose backgrounds include information 
science, computer science, psychology, linguistics, library science, 
sociology, and political science. Its faculty was recently ranked #1 in 
North America for its scholarly productivity and impact. The school 
continues as one of the top-ranked programs of its kind in the nation and 
offers a Master's of Information Science (MIS) degree and a Ph.D in 
Information Science, plus the MLS.

Indiana University is a major public university with about 1500
faculty and 35,000 students on the Bloomington campus. The
campus hosts 110 research centers and institutes, as well as a
wide array of distinguished academic departments and schools.
Indiana University has also been rated as one of the best
networked universities in the U.S.

Nestled in the hills of southern Indiana, Bloomington is within
a day's drive of more than half of the U.S. population. It is a
half of a day's drive or less to locations in Illinois, Iowa,
Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri.
Bloomington is situated in beautiful forested rolling hills and
farmland and is about one hour south of Indianapolis (and its
airport). The Bloomington campus of Indiana University has
been described as "one the five most beautiful in the nation."
Its limestone buildings are situated on a wooded, beautifully
landscaped campus that includes a meandering stream and an
arboretum.Bloomington also has a lively performing arts scene
with well over a thousand concerts on and off campus each
year.
