Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

The Department of Language, Literature, and Communication is seeking
tenure-track faculty to conduct original research and teach courses in one
or more of the following areas: human-computer interaction, web
communication, computer-mediated communication, organizational
communication, persuasion processes, advertising and public relations,
E-business, or social or economic policy as it applies to communication
technologies.  Rank and salary are open, and both senior scholars and new
Ph.D.’s are invited to apply. Duties will begin September, 2002.
Applicants’ research should address fundamental questions about the way
technology shapes human interaction and the individual and/or social impact
of communicating with technologies. Applicants should demonstrate a record
of published research in one or more of the defined areas, acquisition of
extramural research funding, or a clear potential to do so.  

The successful applicants will join a faculty that is currently conducting
state-of-the-art research in Human Computer Interaction, Computer-Mediated
Communication, digital document design, and technology & culture, at one of
America's first technological and most wired universities. They will be
invited to join a multi-disciplinary group of collaborating faculty in the
newly established Rensselaer Social and Behavioral Research Laboratory, a
spacious facility with multiple HCI and CMC research suites, VR and
eyetracking labs, focus group interviewing rooms, Internet2 connection and
other state-of-the-art research capabilities.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is located in upstate New York within easy
driving distance of New York City, Montreal, and Boston, in a region of the
northeast known for its scenic beauty and quality of life.  Review of
