New Research for New Media: Innovative Research Methodologies
March 18-20, 2003
University of Minnesota - Institute for New Media Studies
The Institute for New Media Studies at the University of Minnesota invites presentation proposals for a three-day conference about innovative research methodologies for new media. The conference is meant to provide a forum for researchers who either a) use new media technologies to further their existing research methodologies or b) use innovative research methodologies to further their research into any aspect of new media.
Successful proposals will be 5-7 double-spaced pages and will focus on a methodology employed for research in the field of new media. The paper should include a description of the methodology employed, how it can be used, and its particular advantages and disadvantages. Researchers who submit accepted proposals should be prepared to conduct a twenty-minute presentation, in workshop format, focusing on how the methodology has been applied in their own work, and how it can be applied to other kinds of research projects. All kinds of methodology will be considered, including but not limited to innovative twists on existing methods of quantitative and qualitative research.
Deadline for proposals is November 15, 2002.
Proposals will be reviewed and chosen by experts in the fields of new media and research methodologies. Researchers will be notified of their acceptance by December 30.
As an additional perk, registration for the conference and two nights hotel lodging is free to those with accepted papers. Cost to other attendees is $100 for the entire conference, which includes two lunches, two breakfasts, a conference dinner and a conference program and directory. Registration information and a conference program is available at: http://www.inms.umn.edu/convenings/newresearch/main.htm
The conference will be held in the newly renovated multimedia conference center and auditorium of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication's Murphy Hall on the University of Minnesota Minneapolis campus, nestled in the heart of the Twin Cities.
