Session title: Women in Virtual Spaces
Cyberfeminism has brought forth the idea that virtual spaces can be an
important
tool for women in the fight for equality. Feminist explorations and
interactions on the internet and World Wide Web have opened up virtual
spaces for women's resistance to political, economic and social inequality.
The focus of this session is to explore how women use virtual spaces, or
cyberspaces (including work in Information technology fields), to resist
oppression.
Topics can include but are not limited to:
How do women utilize new cyberspaces?
Is technology a tool of resistance for women or another place that oppresses
women? What can new technologies offer women as (cyber)feminist tools?
Exploring identity on the Net
The digital divide
Race barriers on the Net
Representations of women in cyberspaces and IT
Women in Information Technology industries
