Professor in the area of New Media 


The creation of this new post by the University of Wales, Aberystwyth is both an acknowledgement of the remarkable achievements of the Department of Theatre, Film & Television Studies in recent years, and a response to our need for an appointment to play a leading role in new developments currently taking place in the Department: most immediately, the introduction of a new degree, Media & Communication Studies, which will have at its heart the study of digitised and converging media, and the development of a range of skills and capacities to enable graduates to seek employment in these diverse industries.

The person appointed

The person appointed will have a good first degree, a postgraduate qualification, and a substantial track-record of research and publications, in one of the academic disciplines which contributes to current knowledge and understanding of the media: notably, media studies, communication studies, cultural studies, sociology, or a specific subject domain such as film or television studies.  For appointment as Professor, the University will seek evidence that you have reached the position of being an acknowledged authority in your subject area, with proven strengths and the ability to lead across research, teaching and academic development, and a national / international reputation.

The Department of Theatre, Film & Television Studies is ambitious to become a major, recognised centre for work in the broad area of both traditional and new media.  We are looking to appoint someone willing to contribute overall to accelerating the development of our work, and to placing their own accent on that work.
