I'd suggest finding a CAVE http://www.cave.vt.edu/,   and going to the 
siggraph conference, i've not been to siggraph myself, but I'm told it 
is a place to be for this type of thing. for web-based 3d environments 
we have a few at cddc that can be explored, look on the current 
research editions page.  you'll need cosmo player.
