I've been keeping statistics on LambdaMOO over the
past year or two.  Currently, the number of players
registered at Lambda is 3579.  Note, this includes
alternate players, players who haven't been active
recently, reaper protected players etc.  Nonetheless,
the reapers do a good job of weeding out inactive
players.

This number is down from 4139 in November 2001.
