The Department of Art and Art History is part of the School of the Arts
and the College of Architecture and Urban Studies at Virginia Tech
(Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University). Virginia Tech is
the largest university in the state.
The department has just over 300 majors offering the BA and BFA degree
in studio and a BA in art history and a BFA only graphic design degree.
Salary: The salary for the digital artist is competitive with other
major universities and will be based on the experience and professional
qualifications and credentials of the selected candidate.
Start Date: August 2004
Position Description: The department is seeking a candidate with prior
experience in the field of digital art and two years experience beyond
graduate school. The candidate must be committed to continued research
and professional development in contemporary art that addresses
aesthetic, technical and conceptual ideals related to the digital art
and design field. The position is tenure track.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Teach a 5-course load over two semesters.
2.Primary class instruction will be devoted to developing and
instructing digital art and animation courses at the beginning and
advanced levels.
3.Experience in the use of Macintosh-based educational technologies and
a working knowledge of Maya 5.0, Flash or comparable capabilities in
animation and 3-d modeling.
4.Maintain an ongoing professional research and exhibition agenda that
would lead to the awarding of tenure.
5.Advise a limited number of students within the department along with
committee service at the departmental and college level. The university
recognizes the importance of accomplishment in the areas of teaching,
research, service and outreach.
