THE NEW WEB OF HISTORY
A CONFERENCE ABOUT CRAFTING THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ON-LINE
MARCH 28 AND 29, 2003
CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS

Dear Colleagues,

The Dibner/Sloan History of Recent Science and Technology Project (HRST)
and the Dibner Institute invite you to a conference on the novel
opportunities and challenges that the World Wide Web presents for
historians of science and technology. The conference has two goals:
first, to provide a snapshot of some of the most original projects that
use the Web to produce, present and disseminate scholarly and educational
materials; and second, to examine critically the challenges as well as the
opportunities that such projects face.

The conference will be held on March 28th and 29th in Cambridge,
Massachusetts. We plan three sessions, each of which includes
presentations concerning recent and on-going projects: New Methods, about
new tools and approaches for doing history on line; New Products, about
the use of new media and the production of content; and New Challenges
about issues faced by researchers, academia, and publishers. Each day will
conclude with a panel of historians, administrators and program officers
offering responses, reflections, and discussing future prospects. The
confirmed speakers and commentators so far include:
