What a wonderful thread just at the right time!
Please, everyone, engage in some online debate/discourse at
http://aoir.org/forum so that later on you can do some informed online
voting for your new executive committee!

Subject: [Air-l] debate on on-line voting

Many thanks to Christian Sandvig for the detailed
and interesting report on the debate at Oxford
on the question of on-line voting.

A question: Years ago now James Carey
pointed out that the "vote" is comprised of
more than the voting moment, for it also
includes public discourse about the issues
and candidates being voted upon. For this
reason, he argues, the question of electronic
voting must include attention to the question
of participation in public discourse about
issues and candidates to be meaningful.
Christian, in your report about the debate
this topic doesn't appear -- was it raised
at all?

Thanks --

Sandra Braman
