[Air-l] Internet topologies

I'm working with a user experience strategy team on developing a 
conceptual mapping or topology for a very large internet domain that 
has millions of leaf-level pages. We will need to differentiate between 
public and private areas; between generic and personalized areas; and 
between straight information delivery and robust web application areas. 
We may also benefit from a scheme for task- or goal-oriented topologies 
and audience-focused topologies.

Can anyone recommend any research or writings that discuss way finding 
on the Internet, notions of space on the Internet, and the transition 
between Internet space and other social, conceptual or physical spaces?
