ARTHUR is ready and willing to publish gruesome WAR PHOTOS that, if Gulf
War I were any indication (and it may not be, of course), are likely not
to be made available to Americans by either the government or the
mainstream media. Please note that we cannot currently offer any
financial compensation to contributors.

ARTHUR is a free, 48-page, labor-of-love bimonthly broadsheet with a
45,000 printrun (likely to go higher with the next ish). It is distributed
to major markets across North America by a network of volunteers.

Info on ARTHUR is available at
http://www.arthurmag.com

(At ARTHUR's website you will find links there to recent features on
ARTHUR in Los Angeles Times and the Philadelphia Weekly.)

Please pass this note on to any photographers who might want to work with
us. Thank you so much. They can contact me at

THE FORD FOUNDATION
320 EAST 43RD STREET, BOX #162
NEW YORK, NEW YORK 10017
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

PROGRAM OFFICER
KNOWLEDGE, CREATIVITY AND FREEDOM PROGRAM
MEDIA, ARTS AND CULTURE

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Working with the Director, the Media, Arts and
Culture (MAC) team and other Foundation staff, the Program Officer will
be responsible for developing, monitoring, and evaluating the Foundation's
US programming in public interest media with a primary focus on
production. Building on the knowledge gained from the Foundation's lines
of work in public interest media, the Program Officer will develop new
initiatives that support high quality, innovative social documentaries and
other media projects through the Foundation's Media Projects Fund. The
Program Officer will also be expected to develop strategies that help
public interest media to broaden and diversify their audiences; to
strengthen the infrastructure of public radio and broadcasting; and to
take account of new technologies. Individuals with interdisciplinary
knowledge, interest and experience in more than one medium (e.g. film,
television, radio, internet, and digital media) and strong interest in
teamwork and collaboration are encouraged to apply. The purpose of this
work shall be consonant with the Foundation's mission statement;
Knowledge, Creativity and Freedom (KC&F) values of identity, community and
creativity; and the unit's goal to advance media, technology, information
resources and policies to strengthen diverse communities and promote
democratic values.

The Program Officer will develop grantmaking strategies; identify
prospective grantees; solicit, review and respond to grant proposals; and
prepare recommendations for Foundation funding. The Program Officer will
also collaborate especially with colleagues in KC&F and in the
Foundation's other programs and overseas offices to advance a worldwide
agenda around the Foundation's goals in the Media, Arts and Culture
fields.

QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced degree or equivalent experience is required, as
is substantial professional experience with public interest media
production, distribution and exhibition systems and institutions,
including interactive media, in the United States. Substantial experience
with issues related to diversifying staffing and programming is also
important. Superior analytical skills and the capacity to write and speak
effectively are critical. Interest in working collaboratively and through
teams and familiarity and/or experience with business planning and
non-U.S. national media systems are highly valued, as is interest in and
ability to work collaboratively with colleagues both in the U.S. and
overseas, particularly in Africa and the Middle East, Latin America and
the Caribbean, Asia, and Russia.

Salary is based on experience and the Foundation's commitment to internal
equity. A generous benefits package is included.

To apply for employment, please send resume, cover letter, and brief
writing sample (5-20 pages of original work) by April 30, 2003 to Ms. J.
Graber (at the above address) or preferably by e-mail to
resumes at fordfound.org.

principles at The Ford Foundation, where employment and promotional
opportunities are based upon individual capabilities and qualifications
without regard to race, color, religion, gender, pregnancy, sexual
orientation/affectional preference, age, national origin, marital status,
