NOTICE OF PART TIME LAW FACULTY POSITION
TECHNOLOGY LAW AND PUBLIC POLICY CLINIC
The University Of Washington School Of Law invites applications for the
appointment of a part-time Lecturer or Assistant Professor without tenure
(WOT). Faculty rank will be dependent on qualifications of candidate and
funding availability and source. This faculty member will serve as director
of a newly created public interest Technology Law and Public Policy Clinic.
The clinic, an outgrowth of the Shidler Center for Law, Commerce and
Technology, is being funded for an initial period of two years. The Law
School seeks applicants who possess superior academic credentials, a record
of practice and/or legislative and policymaking experience in areas
relating to technology law and public policy. Relevant areas of expertise
include: Internet/information technology, intellectual property and
telecommunications. Candidates must have been admitted to practice law for
a minimum of three years. Previous teaching experience preferred.
The position involves: (1) directing a law school clinic in which students
represent underrepresented stakeholders in public policy debates concerning
law and technology. Possible clients will include government agencies and
entities, nonprofit organizations, consumer organizations and indigent
persons. Projects will include legislative drafting and commentary, amicus
and appellate advocacy projects; (2) teaching clinic students the
substantive law, procedures, lawyering skills and ethical considerations
necessary to represent the clinic's clients; (3) supervising the students'
provision of legal services to clinic clients; (4) teaching a parallel
2-credit substantive course on technology law and public policy during the
autumn quarter for students enrolled in the clinic, other interested JD and
LLM students and graduate students from other departments; and (5) grant
writing and related fund raising activities.

range is $30,000 to $40,000 plus benefits (assuming position is part, not
full-time.) The position is of two years commencing July 1, 2003 with
renewal subject to the continued receipt of outside funding and performance
in the position.
