DIGIPLAY: EXPLORING THE SOCIAL SCIENCE OF TECHNOLOGIES OF LEISURE CRIC,
University of Manchester 14-15th January 2004

Booking has now opened for the first of the ESRC-funded Digiplay Seminar
Series. The series of six seminars, which will take place at various UK
locations over the next two years, kicks off at CRIC at the Manchester
University on Jan 14th 2004.

The series explores the links between technology and leisure and the
social-science understandings of these. The first of the seminars will
take place over two days and include a postgraduate workshop organised
by Karenza Moore.

"'Turning On' to Leisure with Pleasure: Exploring unusually innovative

"Violence, videogames and vulnerability: A critical review of the

"Virtual Methods for Understanding Technologies of Leisure" 

Aphra Kerr, Dublin City University
"From Concept to Market: The Digital Games Business" 

Brian Longhurst, University of Salford
"Consuming the car: anticipation, use and meaning in contemporary youth
culture" 

Lydia Plowman, University of Stirling
"Play, Learning and 'Technotoys'" 

Jason Rutter, University of Manchester
"Games as Consumers as Producers"

Registration at the seminars is free but places are limited. Support
towards expenses may be available to UK registered postgraduate
