[Air-l] Hobbyist Uses of the Internet

Good morning list,

I have just commenced a PhD with Curtin University in Australia, researching
the changing face of the hobby ‘genealogy’. I am interested in how the
advent of the Internet has changed the social phenomenon of genealogy, using
a three-part conceptual framework: communicating, transacting, and
publishing.

Has anyone come across any empirical studies / papers / books regarding the
pursuit of any hobbyist genre online? I am specifically interested in
hobbies that were once ‘offline’ and now pursued online (or a combination of
both), rather than those that only exist virtually. To date I have found
very few, other than those researching amateur photographers and Internet
usage.

Thanks
Kylie
