Converging Media

The Department of Communication at the University of Utah seeks qualified
applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position with emphasis in
converging media, effective July 1, 2006. The qualified applicant will have
a completed, or nearly completed, PhD in mass communication or closely
related field and be able to demonstrate potential excellence in teaching,
research and/or creative scholarship with an integrated view of the
following areas: new media theory, criticism, and design (as related to
film, television, animation, web design, interactive media and
scriptwriting, mobile technologies, and videogames); and new communication
technology law and policy, history, or political economy. The qualified
candidate will be able to teach theoretical and design courses at the
undergraduate and graduate levels emphasizing the social, cultural,
historical, and creative aspects of converging media. Direction of graduate
students is required. Candidates must be fluent in the Adobe and Macromedia
suites in communication contexts.

communication effective July 1, 2006.  Strong candidates will have a
background in media studies as it relates to cultural, racial, and/or ethnic
diversity or strong expertise in: diversity or minority issues in mass
communication; cultural, racial, or ethnic issues in the media; critical
media approaches; media effects; journalism; or integrated communication.
Highly qualified applicants will have a completed or nearly completed Ph.D.
in mass communication, or a closely related discipline or a recognized
research or creative scholarship agenda; appropriate professional
experience; a record of or demonstrated potential for teaching excellence;
and the promise or early evidence of a productive research or creative
scholarship program.  Highly qualified candidates will be able to teach a
variety of skills and concept courses.  Academic rank contingent upon
qualifications.

Assistant Professor in Journalism/Mass Communication

The Department of Communication at the University of Utah invites
applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in journalism/mass
communication effective July 1, 2006.  The Department is particularly
interested in candidates with a background in international or global mass
communication.  Strong candidates will have professional experience in
journalism; a completed, or nearly completed, Ph.D. in mass communication or
a closely related discipline; a record of or demonstrated potential for
teaching excellence; and the promise or early evidence of a productive
research program in any of the following areas: print journalism,
international mass communication; the role of the mass media in society, the
media's impact on society, or methodological questions and their
relationship to society.  Highly qualified candidates will be able to teach
reporting, writing, and editing; graduate and undergraduate courses in their
own areas of expertise; or other areas consistent with the department's
needs.  
The successful candidate also will be able to establish and build
relationships with local media professionals.
