Transdisciplinarity involves the establishment of a common set of  
axioms for a hitherto unconnected or partially interacting cluster of  
disciplines.  2211

 From the 1950's onward, transdisciplinarity has become a matter for  
deliberate innovation.  New fields such as systems analysis and games  
theory have multiple applications, and transdisciplinarlity may  
develop through the application of these concepts to individual  
disciplines.  Procedures can be developed whereby a student can learn  
to adopt transdisciplinary ways of thinking and working without  
having to pass through an interdisciplinary stage. 2212

This is compared to interdisciplinarity, which uses axioms and  
methods from established disciplines.
