AOL removed the dataset within a day or so, but it was already mirrored in
tons of places, and is searchable by (among other items) user id, some of
which circulate as examples of the kinds of telling search records that
exist(ed), including searches on names and addresses, all manner of
pornography of course, methods of homicide and suicide, et al.

New York Times article from 23. August on a recent release by AOL of a very
large data set - one that set off privacy concerns among the researchers
interviewed in the article.
Thoughts and comments from sister / fellow Internet researchers - including
re. the ethical issues involved?
