Position Description
Starting August 2007

The Department of Telecommunications, School of Communication Studies 
at Bowling Green State University, invites applications for a tenure 
track Assistant Professor position in media economics and media 
industries starting August, 2007.
Candidates should have expertise in media economics, fundamentals of 
media industry convergence, mergers and acquisitions. Applicants 
should possess scholarly expertise about mainstream media economic 
theory and/or critical theories that contribute to the understanding 
of contemporary media/telecommunication industry realities. The 
successful applicant is expected to develop and teach undergraduate 
and graduate courses in media industries, to enhance critical 
understanding of these industries, to demonstrate both ongoing 
research activity and an interest in professional community 
involvement, and contribute to any of the School's areas of research 
strength (including those represented by the School's current 
research clusters in emerging media technologies, health 
communication, intercultural/development/international communication 
and communication theory). A Ph.D. in telecommunication studies or 
related areas with a specialization in telecommunication and media 
industries, media economics and finance is required. Global 
perspectives on telecommunications will be a plus.
The Department of Telecommunications has more than 270 majors who can 
focus on one of four areas: media management, radio, television, and 
audience research. The School of Communication Studies comprises the 
departments of Telecommunications, Journalism and Interpersonal 
Communications, with approximately 1,000 majors. School faculty 
support master's and doctoral programs with emphases in media studies 
or communication and culture. Most of the School's tenure and 
tenure-track faculty who participate in the graduate program, and are 
research productive, carry 2:2 teaching loads and have graduate

Bowling Green State University is conveniently located in Northwest 
Ohio off I-75, some 20 miles south of Toledo with 841 full-time 
faculty members teaching 20,000 students. Major U.S. cities such as 
Detroit and Cleveland are only two hours away from campus. The 
university is committed to teaching and research excellence, which 
extends to multiple sources of support for pedagogical growth, 
including optional faculty learning communities, extensive training 
opportunities on the use of technology in teaching.  The library is a 
participant in OhioLINK, a consortium of Ohio's college and 
university libraries and the State Library of Ohio, which provides 
access to 40 million library items and more than 100 electronic
databases. Application Procedures: A completed application must include
a cover 
letter, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and a current CV, and at 
least three current and original signed letters of recommendation 
(neither email or faxed letters are accepted). Finalists must provide 
transcript evidence of highest degree. The application cover letter 
must be postmarked before, or on the October 16, 2006 deadline.
