pass on the following announcement from Elizabeth Buchanan, director of The
Center for Information Policy Research, School of Information Studies,
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee - and, of course, chair of the AoIR ethics
working group.

The Center for Information Policy Research, School of Information Studies,
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, is pleased to announce Dr. Charles Ess,
Distinguished Research Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies, Drury
University will lecture on ³An Impending Global ICE Age?: East-West
Perspectives on Information and Computer Ethics,² as part of his 2006-07
CIPR Information Ethics Fellowship.
A prominent philosopher and information ethics scholar, Dr. Ess is Co-chair,
CATaC conferences, Vice-President, Association of Internet Researchers, and
Professor II, Globalization and Applied Ethics Programmes, Norwegian
University of Science and Technology. He has published extensively in the
areas of History of Philosophy, Ethics, Culture, Technology,
Computer-Mediated Communication, and Online research ethics.

Dr. Ess was selected as a CIPR Information Ethics Fellow to honor his
prestigious contributions to the field of information and computer ethics,
and in particular, his work on East-West perspectives on ethics.

While in residence at the CIPR, Dr. Ess will also lecture to SOIS graduate
students on different cultural values and communicative preferences and
their impact on effective web design. Dr. Ess¹s work will be highlighted in
the CIPR Occasional Papers, available at
