[Air-l] concerns about new biblio programs: Endnote issue

I'm happy with open or closed source as long as the program uses some form of open standards that allow import /export.

I've recently had a bit of a nightmare with Endnote. I've been collaborating on a paper for OTM COMINF'06[1} with a colleague from another university. He uses Endnote 9, my university gives me Endnote 7. My colleague Marcus sends me his Endnote 9 bibliography, I can't read it.

Endnote 9 appears not to be backwards compatible with Endnote 7. I'd really welcome any suggestions how we overcome this problem: anybody else sorted this out? We had a few goes at exporting from E.9 in various formats.

cheers!
Mark

Subject: [Air-l] concerns about new biblio programs

I'm a little concerned about people getting involved in bibliographic
programs which might not be supported in a few years, Open Source or not.

Our investment in building our bibliographies tend to cumulate.

That's why I stick with Endnote, despite its propietary nature.
Even after being bought by ISI, it seems to have staying power.
And with my 16K items in my bibliography, I'd hate to have to re-enter.

Or am I missing something?

Cheers, Barry Wellman
