In an experimental timeframe of about ten years, interactive media
installations and performances have emerged as a new art form in
urban space. Screen Installations, Public Projections, Interactive
Fassades and Shopwindows, Public Communication-Sculptures and
Messageboards or Space Annotations, Psychogeographic Performances and
Location-Based Mobile Games try to create create new visual
experiences in an increasingly commercialised urban space. What has
been learned from the investigation of the interconnectedness of
urban public space, interaction and new media utilising the growing
digital infrastructure and new wireless and wearable gadgets. What
strategies and tools can be found to engage the audience, considering
the character of an urban surrounding and desired type of interaction
and personal or joint experiences.
