Conor Schaefer asked if pre-Internet, there had been multiple roles, so
that people would show different personas on FB and MyS, etc.

The concept of "role set" was developed by sociologists in the 1950s for
the notion of multiple roles. Key scholars were Robert Merton and Neal
Gross, both eminent, and both onetime students of Talcott Parsons.
