i use devonthink pro,  here's some screenshots of how i use it:

size of database,

digging down into authors.  author names on the left are searched as  
phrases, capitalization does not matter:)

you can see the duplicates in augmenting human intellect there, when  
i find them i just remove them.   i find it is better to collect  
everything and prune at my leisure than to be selective, and then not  
be able to find what i remember reading.

i complement devonthink pro with bookends.
