[Air-l] Website/weblog word counts - methodology

What is the best way to characterize this data?  I suspect that
average word count is not a particularly useful metric, since a few
extremely long posting will create a misleading picture.  Quartiles or
quintiles might be a better approach, or log distribution.

What do others think?  Does anyone know of any guidelines for good
practice for this kind of statistical research?
