Research Fellow: Privacy and Mobile Computing

Department of Computing (Centre for Research in Computing)
The Open University (Ref: 4758)
£27,466 - £32,796 (subject to inflation increase from October 2008)

3 year contract available from 1 September 2008

Applications will be considered from 13 June 2008, until the position is filled.

Privacy Rights Management in Mobile Applications (PRIMMA) is a major
new three year research project funded by the EPSRC that will
investigate privacy in mobile computing. The research fellow, based at
the Open University, will work as part of a team comprising
researchers at the Open University, University of Bath, Imperial
College London and IBM. The research fellow will conduct research that
both investigates users' current requirements in terms of mobile
privacy, and that also asks fundamental questions about the nature of
privacy, trust, social interaction and human relations in the context
of mobile social networking.

We are looking for candidates who display the talent, creativity, and
enthusiasm necessary to perform outstanding research into privacy that
will make a difference - to ask original, concrete questions and to
adopt incisive methodologies for exploring them, in order to help
positively shape the development of pervasive, location-aware mobile
systems, and those whose lives are affected by it.

Applicants should have (or expect to receive by September 2008) a
Masters level degree (ideally a PhD) in a relevant subject (e.g.
human-computer interaction, software engineering, computer science,
information systems, psychology, communication studies), and an
interest in privacy, security, social networks or pervasive and mobile
computing.

For further details about the position, contact the project principal
investigator, Professor Bashar Nuseibeh: B.Nuseibeh at open.ac.uk.
Informal enquiries are encouraged. A 'Further Particulars' document
elaborating on the project and the post is available (see link below)

Applications should include a completed application form, a CV, and a
cover letter/research statement explaining the candidate's
suitability for the position. Applications should be sent
electronically to Professor Bashar Nuseibeh and copied to
mct-recruitment at open.ac.uk .

Disabled applicants who meet the essential job requirements will be
interviewed. Further particulars are available in large print, disk
or
audiotape (minicom 01908 654901).

We promote diversity in employment and welcome applications from all
sections of the community.
