Arizona State University Postdoctoral Fellowship in Communication,
Counter-Terrorism, and National Security 2009-2010



The Consortium for Strategic Communication (CSC) at Arizona State
University seeks to enhance its rising stature as a center of
excellence in Communication, Counter-Terrorism, and National Security.
 As part of this initiative, the CSC is pleased to announce a new
Postdoctoral Fellowship program beginning May 15, 2009.



Postdoctoral Fellowship



Three postdoctoral fellowships will be awarded for the 2009-10 year
with appointments beginning May 15, 2009. Appointments are for full
time employment (40 hours per week) for one academic year, and are
renewable for an additional academic year given satisfactory
performance. A third year of continuation is possible, contingent on
additional funding by the sponsor.  Salary is $60,000 and the
University offers subsidized health insurance.  Support for travel to
conferences will be available.  Fellows are responsible for relocation
and housing expenses.  Fellows will support a research project
sponsored by the Office of Naval Research involving the collection and
assessment of narratives circulating in contested populations of
Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and/or Southern Europe/Northern
Africa.



Eligibility



Applicants must have an earned or pending doctoral degree in
Communication, Film/Media Studies, Anthropology, Political Science,
Sociology, Languages, Religious Studies, or a related
field/discipline.  The degree must have been earned no earlier than
2005.  Candidates with pending degrees who will have successfully
defended their dissertations by May 1, 2009 will also be considered.
Applicants must have no more than two years of formal postdoctoral
experience.



In addition, applicants must have critical language expertise and
cultural knowledge of one or more of the three regions listed above.
Relevant expertise in one or more of the subjects of strategic
communication, counter-terrorism, ideology, narrative analysis, media
analysis, transmediation, and/or computational modeling is desirable.

Responsibilities



Postdoctoral scholars are expected to carry out the research plan and
fulfill the goals established with the supervising faculty member, Dr.
Steve Corman; to assist the supervising faculty member and other
Co-Principal Investigators in fulfilling the requirements of the grant
in a timely manner; to communicate regularly with the supervising
faculty member and other members of the research team; and to notify
the faculty member of any change in research plans.

Scanned copies of current academic transcript from all degree awarding
institutions. Official transcripts will be requested from those who
received formal offers.
