Niklas Luhmann has created a richly faceted and non deterministic
communication sociological theory about media, which opens for analysis
adequate to understanding contemporary interactions, organizations and
society. In his early main work Social Systems from 1984 Luhmann works with
three different types of media, language, distribution media and
symbolically generalized communication media, which evolutionary developed
makes probable that communication will succeeds. In his late main work Die
Gesellschaft der Gesellschaft from 1997, as well as in many other books and
articles, Luhmann also works with a general and abstract concept of media,
which not only logically and theoretical explains the three former types of
media, but also can explain many other phenomena in the contemporary
society. In this issue we would like to investigate Luhmann and the media.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

a.. Discussions of Luhmann's theory of media in comparison with other
media theories.
b.. Applied studies using Luhmanns theory of media in regard to:
Interaction media, for instance mobile phones, Messenger, e-mail, Mass
media, for instance newspapers, TV, radio, WWW, Web 2.0 media, for instance
You Tube, Wikipedia, Face Book.
c.. Studies of the use of Media in Education, Organizations, Art etc.
d.. Studies of Media in a historical and/or social evolutionary
perspective.
