At the risk of self-promotion, see my recent article, "Building the 
Cartesian Enlightenment: Los Angeles, homelessness and the public sphere," 
_City_, Vol. 12, n.3, December 2008. It examines the conceptual 
relationships between communication technologies/the internet and homeless 
as an embodied phenomenon.
