Texas Tech University's Communication Studies Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure track, open rank position to begin August 2010. The successful applicant should be qualified to teach the undergraduate and graduate communication theory and research methods courses. Preference will be given to the candidate who has a degree in hand, 2 or more years of full-time university teaching experience, demonstrates a solid understanding of the range and depth of philosophical underpinnings within the field (i.e., objective/discovery, interpretive, critical, and postmodern philosophies), and who is capable of teaching a broad survey of theoretical ideas and a variety of methodological approaches (i.e., critical, rhetorical, qualitative, and quantitative) that are taught in the department. Candidates with an expertise in qualitative and/or critical approaches who can teach the full range of philosophical and methodological approaches are especially sought. The successful candidate will be expected to offer appropriate service to the department, college, and university.

Texas Tech University is a Carnegie Tier One reaching university that offers the most degrees for a non-land grant university in Texas. The Communication Studies Department includes Interpersonal, Organizational, and Rhetorical emphases at the undergraduate level and a Master of Arts degree.

Qualifications for the position include a doctorate in communication at the time of application. Documentation of teaching effectiveness and scholarly achievement are required; evidence of successful grant applications and a research agenda that ties into the university's emphases on wind/sustainable energy, water resources, biomedical sciences, environmental sciences, or technology innovations are a plus. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits in a low-cost geographic region of the country, a 9-month contract, university resources for funding research, and the possibility of summer teaching. In addition, we are located in the West Texas region that is comprised of sizeable Hispanic/Latino/a and aging populations, and have connections with the TTU Law School and the TTU Health Science Center should a candidate's research program warrant such resources.

Please send electronically a cover letter, CV, transcripts (can be unofficial until campus visit is offered), evidence of effectiveness in teaching, research, and grant writing, a statement of teaching philosophy, and three letters of recommendation to Dr. Mark Gring, Communication Studies Search Committee, 264 Mass Communications Bldg, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX 79423-3083.
