The Department of Media and Culture Studies, Utrecht University, has a 
vacancy for an:

Assistant Professor New Media and Digital Culture (1,0 fte)

Job description

You will teach Bachelor's and Master's courses, particular courses in 
the field of new media and digital culture. You will supervise Master's 
theses, and participate in the administration of the department.

MCS offers an interdisciplinary and open atmosphere with a young, 
dynamic team. Courses are taught in Dutch and English, but non-Dutch 
speaking candidates are required to be able to teach in Dutch after one 
year.


Qualifications

Applicants require a PhD, teaching experience on Bachelor's and Master's 
level, and should be able to demonstrate affinity with the core themes 
of the Master's programme New Media and Digital Culture: contemporary 
debates, media comparison, popular culture, identity and participation, 
communication and technology. We are looking for candidates who are 
familiar with current debates in the field of computer game studies. 
Preference is given to candidates who have a research interest in 
serious games and/or in the notion of play as a conceptual framework for 
the analysis of media use.

Terms of employment

The successful candidate will be offered a 2-year contract (renewable, 
subject to performance review), with the possibility of tenure upon 
first renewal for 1,0 fte. Depending on knowledge and experience, the 
salary has a minimum of € 3,195.- and a maximum of € 4,970.- gross per 
month based on full-time employment (scale 11 en 12 of the Dutch 
Universities Conditions of Employment). We also offer a pension scheme, 
a holiday allowance of 8% per year and flexible employment conditions. 
Conditions are based on the Collective Employment Agreement of the Dutch 
Universities.

Utrecht University employs a system of qualifications for teaching. The 
successful candidate must also have or has to be willing to acquire the 
appropriate (basic)teaching qualification.
