he Department of Communication at the University of Utah invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor, beginning July 1, 2010. As a truly integrated academic unit, the department seeks applicants with a strong new media background who can further develop the vibrant area of new media studies while contributing to the intersections of new media and other core and emergent areas of emphasis within the department. Specifically, strong candidates will have teaching and research expertise at the intersection of new media and one or more of the following areas: strategic communication, convergence journalism, environmental communication, health communication, and/or organizational communication. Successful applicants will demonstrate the capacity to contribute to the graduate and undergraduate programs in both new media studies and the area(s) of intersection as claimed and teach courses that are theoretical and issue oriented as well as those that emphasize practical application.

Highly qualified applicants will have attained (or nearly so) a Ph.D. in communication or a closely related discipline or interdisciplinary program and they will demonstrate appropriate technical knowledge; a record of or demonstrated potential for teaching excellence; and the promise or clear evidence of a productive research or creative scholarship program.
