Call for Chapter Proposals
Managing Open Innovation Technologies
Deadline: 15 September 2010

We invite submissions for an edited book, planned to be published with Springer, on the role of ICT, Web 2.0 technologies and their relation to Open Innovation. As aspects of open innovation are redrawing boundaries for innovation and collaboration, we encourage researchers and reflective practitioners from all disciplines and fields that focus on aspects of technology and innovation in their research or service to consider submitting proposals for case studies (3000-5000 words) or research articles (7000-10,000 words). Chapters are to address aspects of creating new business opportunities by engaging end-users in co-creative activities by means of supporting technology. While contributions should rest on scientific methods and rigor, the style of writing should be practically oriented and suitable for both researchers and advanced practitioners interested in learning about and adopting open innovation.

The purpose of the book is to advance and disseminate practically relevant research on systematic practical open innovation, and make research results available to practitioners. The intended target audience is the international academic community and industry (the software and ICT sector as provider of technology and other sectors as adopters), including government, NPOs and NGOs.

Open innovation involves all aspects of creating new business opportunities by engaging end-users in co-creative activities. Web 2.0 technologies has caused electronic collaboration to evolve, hence paving the way for companies to invite customers and employees to be involved in the refinement of their offerings. Ideally open innovation will create win-win situations where users get services that are more oriented to their needs and organizations will offer services that are more desired by the market.

Suggested topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Collaboration systems and open innovation
* Social software and open innovation
* Open source software lessons for open innovation
* ICT and inter-/intra-organizational innovation
* Management of IT for open innovation
* The role of open standards in relation to open innovation technology
* Users as innovators in a digital environment
* ICT and consumer innovation networks
* Lessons from open innovation in practice
* Tools for open innovation
* Frameworks for deploying open innovation
* Technology and applications for open innovation
* Design, application and evaluation of ICT for open innovation
* Implementation, integration and maintenance of ICT for open innovation
* Successful exemplars, such as commercial open source projects and open innovation clusters
* Theoretical foundations, methodological issues, practical approaches and underlying trends of open innovation


You are cordially invited to submit on or before September 15, 2010, a 2-3 page proposal explaining the purpose, objectives, and focus of the proposed chapter. Proposals should include a 2-4 sentences overview of the general topic area, an outline of major topics/major sections covered by the chapter, as well as contact information and a brief bio for each author. Authors will be notified by October 1, 2010 about the status of their proposals. Authors of accepted proposals will be invited to participate in a developmental workshop in Uppsala, Sweden, on November 5, 2010. Drafts of chapters (approx. 6,000 words) are due by January 15, 2011.
