Dear all

The Department of Internet Studies, Curtin University is seeking to appoint two new lecturers on fixed-term three-year contracts. These positions are new and are designed to meet the significant increases in student enrolments in recent years; they also will consolidate the recent research success of the department.

We would welcome applications from academics with an established record of teaching and research in Internet Studies or closely related fields who will join the five current staff (4 tenured teaching and research academics and 1 senior research fellow). You must have a PhD, research track record and teaching experience. We particularly seek applicants with experience in the innovative uses of Internet technologies (including social media) in teaching, research or other professional contexts.

The Department offers a BA (Internet Communications), a web media stream in the BA (Mass Communication), a Master of Internet Communications and has a strong doctoral program with over 20 students currently under supervision. There is a strong emphasis on online learning for students studying externally, but we also teach on-campus and through off-shore partner institutions. Currently the department teaches around 250 equivalent full-time students a year. The Internet Studies program has been running since 1999 (graduate) and 2001 (undergraduate). The Department is part of the School of Media, Culture and Creative Arts within the Faculty of Humanities and we have close links to cognate departments such as Screen Arts, Journalism and Information Studies.

Applications close on 29 November 2010; the selection process will be completed before the end of 2010 to commence in early 2011.
