Online engagement and the power to change the world *

*What do have Egyptian mobilisations, garbage collector’s loafers posted on
Facebook and the petition against mobile phones recharging costs all have in
common? It is online engagement, or rather the use of the web, promoted by
citizens but also by institutions, politicians and the private sector. The
aim is to generate changes in real life, by interacting on the web. *

*Online engagement is the focus of the Take Action! International Panel.
Invited panelists, representing different sectors – Universities, NGOs,
Associations, Institutions and Politics – will discuss ways for citizens and
policy makers to improve their relationships through new technologies.
Successful case studies will be presented, giving rise to a debate about how
– by acting on the web – it is possible to achieve concrete results.

   *Dino Amenduni*, Social Media team Leader of Nichi Vendola, Regione
   Apulia President

   *Lasse Berntzen*, Professor of Vestfold University College, Norway,
   expert in e-government, e-democracy and online petitions
   -

   *Gherardo Casini*, Head of the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament, a
   joint initiative of the UN and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which explores
   and promotes the use of new media in Parliaments worldwide
   -

   *Giulia Innocenzi*, Campaigner for Avaaz.org, TV anchor for “Generazione
   zero”, Annozero, Raidue
   -

   *Olivier Paul-Morandini*, founder of the European Emergency Number
   Association and promoter of the campaign for a unique emergency number for
   Europe.

Open contribution through Skype by *Rasha Abdulla*, Associate Professor and
Chair of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department at the American
University in Cairo, Egypt. Video contribution by *Simon Vandereecken*,
Belgium, promoter of the “Shame - No government for our country after 200
days” campaign.

The panel is moderated by* Daria Santucci*, Professor of Web Communication
Semiotics, with a focus on participatory processes; Journalist and
Communications expert for the Torino Chamber of Commerce; and author of *
www.vitaminapubblica.org*.

The panel will take place in Rome on *Monday February 7, 2011, at 11.30 am -
1.30 pm CET*, and will be hosted by Ateneo Impresa, Sala degli Specchi, via
Vittorio Emanuele II 18.

The initiative is part of the Social Media Week in Rome on February 7-11.
