An Invitation
Arab Women, Media, and Sexuality Conference

We are delighted to invite you to the Arab Women, Media, and Sexuality
conference, to take place in York on May 26th, 2012. This international
conference is hosted and organised by the Centre for Women’s Studies at the
University of York. It investigates the interdisciplinary study of
sexuality, media, and gender from an Arab perspective and the intersection
between all three. AWMS conference aims to provide grounds for discussion
and analysis of these three disciplines and to encourage debate, research
and networking in these fields.

Due to the unanticipated volume of interest, the conference will run
concurrent panels on the following themes:

- Cultural Products: TV and Talk Shows

- Cultural Products: Music, Novels, and Poetry

- Cultural Products: Advertisements and Drama

- On Veiling and Unveiling

- East – West

- Resistance

- New Media

The panels will feature papers by delegates traveling to York from Kuwait,
Jordan, Egypt, Portugal, Denmark, France, Ireland, the Netherlands, Turkey,
Canada, and the UK. A few delegates will be offering papers through
long-distance conferencing. The event itself will be hosted in the Berrick
Saul Building in the University of York campus, and we expect the day to
start at 9 AM and to finish at 6:30 PM. A provisional programme can be
found on the conference’s official blog: awmsconference.wordpress.com.
Up-to-date information can also be found on the conference’s facebook page:
