*Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, Tennessee, *Department of
Communication seeks to fill three tenure-track positions.



*Instructor in Public Speaking*: the successful candidate will teach public
speaking and other courses necessary to meet student needs. A Master’s
degree in communication, as well as proven success in the classroom is
required. Two years teaching experience required. Online teaching is an
essential component of the position. Primary teaching responsibilities will
include the basic speech course with other teaching opportunities a
distinct possibility. Other duties will include the establishment of a
Public Speaking Lab as well as student advising responsibilities.



*Assistant Professor in Print and Web Journalism*: Ph.D. in communication
is necessary for this position. ABD accepted if degree requirements
completed by date of hire (August 2012). The primary teaching assignment of
undergraduate and graduate courses in print and web journalism. The
successful candidate should be prepared to teach multi-platform journalism,
computer-assisted reporting, desktop publishing (InDesign), copy editing,
and other journalism-related courses. Other duties include academic
advising, supervision of graduate student research papers and theses, and
oversight of a student organization. The successful candidate is expected
to carry on an active schedule of scholarly research and/or creative
activity appropriate to the primary teaching assignment. Two years of
college teaching required. Online teaching is an essential component of
this position. The successful candidate will be expected to take an active
role in the online M.A. program in corporate communication including the
advising of graduate students and the supervision of research projects and

*Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Social Media/Social Networking
Communication*: Ph.D. in communication is necessary for this position. ABD
accepted if degree requirements completed by date of hire (August 2012).
Rhetorically-based assistant professor with a primary teaching assignment
of undergraduate and graduate courses in social media and networking as
related to integrated corporate communication. The position provides
opportunities to create and teach new graduate courses in social and
cultural effects of media, as well as, developing and teaching other
rhetorically-based graduate courses related to integrated marketing
communication such as Rhetoric of social media, Rhetoric of storytelling,
Business and Professional Communication and/or the Rhetoric of Corporate
America. The successful candidate is expected to carry on an active
schedule of scholarly research and/or creative activity appropriate to the
primary teaching assignment. Two years of college teaching required. Online
teaching is an essential component of this position. The successful
candidate will be expected to take an active role in the online M.A.
program in corporate communication including the advising of graduate

The Department of Communication is very active on and off-campus. The
department operates a 24/7 radio station and 24/7 cable channel.  The
department broadcasts university events including sports, concerts, public
forums, student productions, and other activities.  The department has over
500 undergraduate majors and 100+ graduate students. The MA program in
Corporate Communication is completely online through 8-week terms. All
faculty members teach both online and on-campus courses each semester.

knowledge and ideas in the applicable discipline. Each instructor seeks to
teach ably, to pursue research and write well, and to engage in public
service related directly to the applicable discipline or the general good

improve the intellectual and cultural lives of students, colleagues, and
the community.
