Emerson College seeks a researcher in civic media, technology and engagement. This is a one‐year term, non‐tenure track
appointment that begins September 1, 2012 and concludes June 30, 2013.

With funding from the MacArthur Foundation the Engagement Game Lab,
http://engagementgamelab.org<http://engagementgamelab.org/>, has partnered with the Boston Mayor’s Office of
New Urban Mechanics to establish a research agenda around the city’s civic technology
projects. This researcher will be responsible for maintaining an active research
agenda, co‐authoring a white paper on civic media in the city of Boston, and teaching one
course per semester in the Visual Media and Arts Department at Emerson College.

A Ph.D in communications, media studies, or related field is required (ABDs will be
considered). The ideal candidate will have experience with qualitative research in
the areas of civic engagement, mobile media, serious games, civic media, and or
community‐based technologies.

Please submit a cover letter, research statement, current curriculum vita, and three
names of references to eric_gordon at emerson.edu<mailto:eric_gordon at emerson.edu> by July 15, 2012. The College also
requires all applicants to submit an online data form at
http://www.emerson.edu<http://www.emerson.edu/>. Review of applications will begin July 15, 2012 and
continue until the position is filled.

Emerson College values and has placed an institutional priority on multiculturalism
in the campus community. Through its constantly evolving curriculum it seeks to
prepare students for success in an increasingly multicultural society. The successful
candidate must have the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff
from diverse backgrounds. Members of historically underrepresented groups are
encouraged to apply.

Emerson College is the nation’s only four‐year institution dedicated exclusively to
majors in communication and the arts. Emerson College is located in the center of
Boston, surrounded by major health care and research centers, which provide a
wide range of clinical and research opportunities for faculty and students. The
College enrolls approximately 3,000 full‐time undergraduates and nearly 1,000 full
and part‐time graduate students in its School of the Arts and School of
Communication.
