Two-Year Postdoc in the School of Communication and Information
Rutgers University
Rutgers University School of Communication and Information is pleased to announce an interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Research Associate opening for recent recipients of a Ph.D. in communication or computer science, or related areas. The position seeks applicants to work with Dr. Marya Doerfel and Dr. Matthew Weber, co-PIs with the NetSC&I Lab at the School of Communication and Information (http://comminfo.rutgers.edu/), and Dr. Tina Eliassi-Rad from the Department of Computer Science (http://www.cs.rutgers.edu/). The primary appointment will be with the School of Communication and Information.
The ideal candidate will have a scholarly understanding of communication and social networks, and be comfortable with methods utilized in the analysis of large data sets (e.g. database (SQL) and other programming languages (Java, Python, etc.)). The postdoc will support: (1) data mining, management and social network analysis, with an emphasis on expertise pertaining to large data sets, (2) support the development of new publication and external funding proposal development and (3) coordinate guest speakers for the broader Rutgers community in the area of social networks and (4) support general activities associated with the NetSC&I Lab.
Applicants from a wide range of disciplines, including information science, STS, media studies, computer science and engineering, and social sciences are encouraged to apply. Training in social networks and/or organizational communication, theoretical or technical analysis will be useful for project needs. Postdocs will also have access to the larger community of network scholars in the New York City metro-area, including involvement in seminars, workshops, and the like.
The position includes a competitive salary plus benefits. It will be a one-year appointment beginning no earlier than July 1, 2012, with the possibility of a single year renewal upon satisfactory performance. Informational meetings can be arranged at the annual Sunbelt conference of the International Network for Social Network Analysis in Redondo Beach, CA. Review of applications will begin March 20 and continue until the position is filled.
