Hi all (and particularly graduate students),

Just in case you feel the need to spend a week on the shores of one of the
lovely Swiss/Italian lakes this summer, the deadline is swiftly approaching
to apply for this summer school:

Summer School: Research on computer-mediated communication
June 17-23, 2012
Lago Maggiore (at Ascona, Switzerland)

http://engsem.unibas.ch/nc/department/people/staff/profile/own-pages/person/locher/content/summer-school-2012/

Although this is sponsored by the Hermann Paul School of Linguistics at
Basel‐Freiburg, you certainly don't have to be in linguistics to benefit
from this workshop. Also, If you're studying in the U.S., you can apply for
a generous *travel scholarship* of 1100 CHF (about 1200 USD).

There are only a few seats remaining. If you're interested in this and
want more information than you can find on the website, feel free to
contact me-- I'm one of the instructors.

Regards,

Annette

Research on computer‐mediated communication in linguistics (RCMCL)
17‐23 June 2012, Ascona, Switzerland

This international summer school addresses methodological issues on
computer‐mediated communication in
connection with language use. The school caters to advanced MA and PhD
students already working on CMC topics.
Its aims are as follows:

1) To discuss cutting edge theoretical literature on methodologies in
CMC/CMD (there will be a reading list).
2) To provide students with a set of tools to aid them in the preparation
and analysis of CMC data.
3) To give students a chance to introduce their own research projects and
discuss methodological challenges
(with both other students and staff).

A reading list with central theoretical literature will be provided closer
to the time. Teaching methods will be a
combination of input presentations, hands‐on workshops and feedback
sessions. Our teachers are:
Daniel Alcón, University of Freiburg
Jannis Androutsopoulos, University of Hamburg
Michael Beisswenger, University of Dortmund
Brook Bolander, University of Basel
Andreas H. Jucker, University of Zurich
Miriam A. Locher, University of Basel
Annette Markham, University of Arizona

Location: A beautiful hotel in Ascona, Moscia at the Lago Maggiore in the
Italian speaking part of Switzerland
Registration: Please contact Brook.Bolander at unibas.ch and see below.
Deadline/ Fees: CHF 600 if paid by 15 April, 2012. Members of the Basel
Doctoral Program in Linguistics (DSB)
receive a reduction of CHF 200. The fees include accommodation, food and
tuition. Once we have received your
payment, the registration process is complete. Please note that students
