Communication Inquiry, Assistant Professor

Assistant Professor, Communication Inquiry: Position No. 82471, University
of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, College of Social Sciences, School of Communications,
permanent, general funds, full-time, 9–month, tenure–track appointment, to
begin August 1, 2013, pending position clearance and availability of funds.

Duties:
Teach required courses in communication theory and research methods at both
the undergraduate and graduate levels, and additional courses such as
communication in communities, capstone in communication in communities,
building communication theory, or media effects. Supervise Communication
M.A. and interdisciplinary Communication and Information Sciences (CIS)
Ph.D. students; share in academic advising of undergraduate students;
conduct and direct research; seek extramural funding; pursue scholarly
activities in areas of expertise; publish scholarly, peer–reviewed research;
and provide service to the department, the university, and the community.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. (completed prior to appointment) in Communication from an accredited
college, university or foreign equivalent. ABDs will be considered provided
that candidates submit a letter from their committee chairs attesting that
dissertation and all degree requirements will be completed by the date of
hire. Ability to teach in a wide scope of communication theories and social
scientific research methods at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Demonstrated research abilities in communication. Demonstrated interest in
innovative education strategies. Ability to mentor and direct graduate
students in their research efforts. Refereed publication in journals or
other relevant media.

Desirable Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of communication courses including,
but not limited to, media communication, effects of new media,
international/global communication, communication campaigns, or public
relations. Demonstrated familiarity with interdisciplinary research.
Demonstrated interest in research in the Asia–Pacific region. Record of
applying social scientific research methods to social media. Evidence of
excellence in teaching and working with graduate students.

Salary Range:
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Intercultural and Global Communication, Assistant Professor


Assistant Professor, Intercultural and Global Communication: Position No.
84642, University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, College of Social Sciences, School of

appointment, to begin August 1, 2013, pending position clearance and
availability of funds.

Duties:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in intercultural communication in
local and global multicultural communities that involve blends of
face–to–face and online interaction; supervise Communication M.A. and
interdisciplinary Communication and Information Sciences (CIS) Ph.D.
students; share in academic advising of undergraduate students; conduct and
direct research; seek extramural funding; pursue scholarly activities in
areas of expertise; publish scholarly, peer–reviewed research; and provide
service to the department, the university, and the community.

Minimum Qualifications:

multicultural settings. Record of focus on being both a scholar and
practitioner in an action research paradigm. Demonstrated familiarity with
the recurrent challenges of multicultural teams and communities in the
Americas, Asia and Pacific. Demonstrated commitment to innovative
instructional strategies and the development of interdisciplinary
relationships in this very multidisciplinary field.
