Assistant/Associate Professor, Community-based Research in Communication
The Department of Communication at the University of California, San Diego
http://communication.ucsd.edu/ is committed to academic excellence and
diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and seeks to fill a
tenure-track position up to the Associate Professor (with tenure) rank to
begin Fall 2013. We are seeking a scholar who conducts community-based
research in communication research that is based in and engaged
reciprocally with underserved or disenfranchised populations.
Required qualifications include Ph.D. and evidence of a strong research
program and teaching experience. The preferred candidate will conduct
intergenerational community research and have a strong record of engaging
the issues of equity and diversity central to community-based research.
Candidates should also have a strong record of using theories of learning
and human development, such as socio-cultural approaches or dynamic systems
approaches. This is also an opportunity for the successful candidate to
provide vision and leadership to the Laboratory of Comparative Human
Cognition, a campus research unit with a rich 40-year heritage of work that
promotes the study of human development, diversity, and social inequality
in partnership with communities and institutions in San Diego. Work in
new media also a plus; much of LCHC's recent work explores the complex
impact of digital technologies in various local afterschool learning and
community-centered environments. Preferred candidate will have experience
or a willingness to participate in teaching, mentoring, research or service
towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of
California pay scale. Review of applications will begin January 4, 2013 and
continue until the position is filled. Applications will be accepted
electronically at https://apol-recruit.ucsd.edu/apply/JPF00294 Candidates
should submit electronic versions of a letter detailing research interests
and teaching experience, a CV, and three letters of recommendation.
Applicants are also asked to contribute a separate statement in which they
summarize their past or potential contributions to diversity (For further
information about contributions to diversity statements, see
http://facultyequity.ucsd.edu/Faculty-Applicant-C2D-Info.asp). UCSD is an
affirmative action/equal opportunity employer with a strong institutional
commitment to excellence through diversity.
