The Department of Communication Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning September 1, 2013.
The Department of Communication Studies has three undergraduate concentrations (interpersonal, organizational, and public affairs) for the B.A. degree and a generalist track for the M.A. degree. The successful applicant will have a terminal degree in hand, have two or more years of university teaching experience, demonstrate a solid understanding of the range and depth of philosophical underpinnings within the field (i.e. objective/discovery, interpretive, critical, and postmodern philosophies), and be capable of teaching a broad survey of theoretical and methodological approaches (i.e. critical, rhetorical, qualitative, and quantitative) that are reflected in the department's curriculum and scholarship. Preference is for candidates who can bridge research and teaching across different departmental concentrations. They also will be expected to offer appropriate service within the institution and to the profession.  Applicants should have underway a research program capable of producing high-quality refereed publications and obtaining extramural funding commensurate with the mission and strategic plan of a research intensive university. Applicants should also be qualified to teach undergraduate and graduate courses with primarily in organizational communication, and secondarily in communication theory and research methods.

The College of Arts and Sciences represents 35% of the total enrollment approaching 33,000. The Department of Communication Studies offers B.A. and M.A. degrees. We have ten tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 200 undergraduate majors, and 25 graduate majors. Texas Tech is located in Lubbock, Texas, a West Texas city with a population of more than 265,000 residents and 262 days of sunshine a year. In addition to the university, Texas Tech University System consists of Angelo State University in San Angelo and the University Health Sciences Center (adjacent to the university and with additional health sciences campuses in Amarillo, Abilene, Dallas, El Paso, and Midland-Odessa).
