The Department of Telecommunications of the Grady College at the University of Georgia invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mass Media Arts to begin August 2013.
Academic Rank/Salary - Assistant Professor. Appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary competitive.
Responsibilities - The Telecommunications Department seeks someone with outstanding theoretical and applied expertise in fictional and nonfictional storytelling across multiple digital platforms. The successful candidate will have demonstrable potential to produce scholarly research and/or creative work of the highest standard. The position requires the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in writing for digital multiplatform media, including screenwriting; digital media production and mediated narrative theory; and a thorough grounding in media theory and practice. Also desirable, but not required, is some industry experience in digital media. Research programs or creative programs that have the potential to attract external funding are particularly desirable. The Department is home to scholars working in a variety of epistemological and methodological traditions.
Qualifications - A Ph.D. or MFA in communication or related field is required. Candidates should have a demonstrated record of programmatic scholarly research or creative work and the potential for excellence in teaching. Ability to mentor and direct doctoral and masters students also is required. All successful candidates must be able to serve on graduate student committees and have the ability to direct theses and dissertations.
