Hello everyone,

A group of young scholars is seeking a small number of participants
for a panel on hackerspaces for the 2013 International Communication
Association (ICA) convention in London. Hackerspaces are here thought
to be a vital touchstone for informal education, shared rituals,
resistant media practices, and various amateur pre-histories. An
interdisciplinary perspective on hackerspaces, rather than hacker
culture in general, will help to bridge the many disciplinary
perspectives already at play in this field by grounding the discussion
in terms of specific people, places, and events.

Possible topics include:

* Hacker motivation for technological appropriation and tinkering
* Spaces and social environments for creative and technical making
* Trans-national hobbyist networks
* Gender, race and ethnicity in hacker culture
* Hackers in popular culture
* Hacker literacies
