------------------

Teaching Fellow in New Media
Fixed term for 18 months, from 1 January 2014 (or as soon as possible thereafter) to
30 June 2015.
Part time - 50% of full time equivalent.

You will cover teaching on the Institute of Communications Studies’ BA Hons New Media
(http://ics.leeds.ac.uk/ug/new-media/) and MA New Media (http://ics.leeds.ac.uk/pg/taught-
ma-programmes/ma-new-media/) for a member of staff on extended research leave.

You will have expertise in some of these areas of new media (ideally bringing together
theoretical and practical knowledge): work practices in the new media industries; usability
and user experience design; digital storytelling; digital design; work placements and
internships; some aspects of practical new media production (such as HTML, CSS,
WordPress, visual design, animation).

This post is an excellent opportunity for new media specialists to apply their new media
production experience to the education of tomorrow’s new media thinkers and practitioners.
Students on the Institute of Communications Studies’ BA Hons New Media and forthcoming
MA New Media, undertake a challenging mix of theoretical study and hands-on new media
production that produces graduates who are reflective practitioners, with the knowledge and
skills required for careers in the new media industries.

You must possess an undergraduate degree (BA or BSc) and industry experience in a
relevant area and a postgraduate degree or equivalent professional experience. The ability
to take responsibility for allocated teaching duties and excellent interpersonal and
communication skills are essential to the post.

It should be noted that there will be an imbalance in workload for the successful candidate,
with more teaching in the January to June Semester 2 period than in the September to
January Semester 1 period and you must be able to work to this imbalance.

University Grade 7 (£30,728 - £36,661 p.a. pro rata)

Informal enquiries may be made Chris Birchall, email c.t.birchall at leeds.ac.uk.

Closing Date: 26 November 2013
