The Living Archives project at Malmö University is looking for two two-year post docs. One position is for candidates with a background in computer science. Relevant backgrounds for the other position is cultural studies, memory studies, artistic or performance research, media and communication studies, or closely related subject area.

Living Archives is a research project funded by the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet) and run by Malmö University. The official title of the project is Living Archives: Enhancing the role of the public archive by performing memory, open data access and participatory design. More information about the project: http://livingarchives.mah.se/about/

The Post Doctorate based in the Faculty of Technology and Society will address the creation and use of archives, combined with open data aspects. Relevant aspects include metadata, linked data, mobile devices, physiological data, gaming and crowdsourcing. Further, it is relevant to explore how to mobilize the archive by moving it onto mobile platforms and explore how live data communicated by mobile devices might become instant archives. Ideally, prototype development and evaluation will be combined with critical perspectives in order to establish tools, methods, and best practices in this area. The Post Doc may propose a sub project relevant to the goals of the Living Archives project, or he/she may choose to collaborate actively with one of the sub projects already existing in the Living Archives project.

The Post Doctorate based in the Faculty of Culture and Society will take a social, cultural and critical perspective on archives. This candidate should have a background in cultural studies, memory studies, artistic or performance research, media and communication studies, or closely related subject area. This person might analyze how digital archives for cultural heritage can become social resources, how they can facilitate social change, create cultural awareness and collective collaboration. She or he might also attend to those archiving practices that are not institutionalized or formally recognized: diverse, heterogeneous archiving practices that occur constantly but are largely unacknowledged. Contemporary practices associated with mobile media, storytelling, gaming, open data, and performance are relevant. The Post Doc may propose a particular sub project relevant to a specific archive or set of archiving practices, or they may choose to collaborate actively with one of the sub projects already existing in the Living Archives project.
