[apologies for cross-posting]

Colleagues:

I'm writing regarding an issue that is a bit afield from Internet studies
per se, but which may be of interest to some on this list. Sean Flynn and
I have drafted the linked letter from legal academics to
the Obama administration and Congress requesting an increase in the
transparency of the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) IP chapter
negotiations.

The letter focuses on the procedural quagmire around TPP’s negotiation
process and takes no position on TPP's substance. As you may know, the
Obama administration claims that TPP is in its final stages. Nonetheless,
no text of the agreement has been publicly released, meaning that the
level of transparency is not even up to the standards set by the secretive
Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) process.

If you would like to add your signature or have any questions, please
email me directly *by the end of the day Wednesday, November 13, at
dlevine3 at elon.edu.* Please include your title and affiliation if you wish
to sign. Apologies for the short notice.

Thanks, Best, Dave
