Hi all,
This is a very good example of internet use for an important topic-hearing
impaired in Australia. Paul is well-informed in these matters.
Thanks,

*Captioned relay service for the hearing impaired*

The Telecommunications Universal Service Management Agency has launched a
24/7 captioned relay service for hearing-impaired Australians.****

** **

The new captioned communications service – which is part of the National
Relay Service – enables deaf or hearing-impaired Australians to speak
directly to others using a landline or mobile and have those responses
captioned by a relay operator using voice recognition software.****

** **

The hearing-impaired person can view the captions – which come with just a
1-2 second delay over the web – via their smartphone/tablet or on a
specially designed captioned telephony handset. Private operator AccessComm
is offering limited numbers of landline handsets with built-in screens to
display the captions.****

** **

The new service follows the introduction of both an SMS relay service and a
video relay service to the NRS in July.****
